The Arts & Crafts jewellery movement in Europe noted a distinctive departure from industrialisation. Artists and consumers alike felt uneasy with the mechanisation and standardisation that accompanied the Industrial Revolution, and this movement grew throughout 1870s to 1880s, thus marked a return to unique jewellery pieces, often hand-crafted, and particularly seminal to the birth of Art Nouveau.
