Victorian anchor 'MIZPAH' sailor's wife brooch in 9kt gold. A hollow yellow gold anchor motif in yellow gold featuring an undulating banner diagonally across the anchor engraved in capitals 'MIZPAH', further decorated with a curling vine of flowers and leaves in green gold. Fitted to the reverse with a secure hinged pin and C-scroll.
The 'Mizpah' love token jewellery was gifted as a keepsake for loved ones when they were faced with long periods away from one another. It originated from the Bible verse Genesis 31:49 'And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.'
