Vintage 'fede' ring in 9kt yellow gold. Centred with the 'fede' symbol of two hands clasped in a handshake terminating to ruffled cuffs and met to either side with a solid shank. Marked 9kt gold.
The fede motif is one of the oldest motifs used in jewellery and dates back to early Roman times. The fede (Italian for faith) symbol consists of two hands clasped in a handshake, representing union and in particular the consecration of the marriage ceremony.
The Irish Claddagh ring is thought to have it's origins from this motif, but a heart and crown motif were added.
